Biography
Dr Stangos specializes in Vitreo-Retinal disorders that require either medical or surgical treatment, such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic eye disease, retinal vascular occlusions, uveitis/ocular inflammation, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal detachments and ocular oncology.
Dr Stangos is a Swiss-trained Ophthalmologist. He was a resident at the Department of Ophthalmology of the University Hospitals of Geneva (2001-2004) and the Jules Gonin Eye Hospital of Lausanne (2004-2005). As a Research Fellow at the Laboratory of Ocular Vascular Diseases at the Medical School, University of Geneva (2006-2007), he studied the pathophysiology of Retinal Vascular diseases and explored new therapeutic paradigms. He served the Greek Armed Forces as an Honorary Staff Ophthalmologist at the 412 General Military Hospital and in parallel completed his Medical Doctorate at the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (2007-2008).
Dr Stangos was further trained, at a Consultant level, in the United Kingdom. He was a senior Medical Retina Fellow at St. Paul's Eye Unit at the Royal Liverpool University Hospitals (2008-2010) and a Vitreoretinal Fellow at Kings College Hospital, London (2010-2011) and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London (2011-2013).
In 2014, he returned to Geneva. He is a Vitreoretinal Consultant at the University Hospitals of Geneva and the Centre Ophtalmologique de Florissant. He is also affiliated to the Clinical Eye Research Unit of the Rothschild Foundation in Geneva.
He speaks English, French and Greek.
