All ASRS members are invited to participate in a 5-part webinar series hosted by the Women in Retina (WinR) Section's Clinical Trials Incubator - an extension of the ASRS WinR Mentorship Program.
The fourth webinar of the series will focus on Medical & Safety Monitoring. The session will feature expert speakers, Natasha Singh and Varun Malhotra .
Natasha Singh completed her Pharm D at Rutgers University in New Jersey. She went on to do a 2 year post doctoral fellowship program at Roche in safety. She subsequently joined Roche/Genentech as a full time employee and worked in clinical safety for the next 5 years. She then went on to take on a cross functional team leadership role as Global Development Lead in Ophthalmology. After finishing up her tenure in that role, she decided to do a rotation and explore the commercial side of the organization and help the ophthalmology marketing team launch a new indication for one of their products. After completing her rotation, she decided to come back to clinical safety to take on the Safety Strategy Leader role for Port Delivery System with ranibizumab and Lucentis, which is her current role to date.
Varun Malhotra completed his undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College and his medical degree at the New York University School of Medicine. He then completed his residency in ophthalmology at NYU/Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital before completing his fellowship in glaucoma at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago. He spent eight years in clinical medicine in private practice as well as in academic medicine at Loyola University and the University of Chicago, where he directed glaucoma services and served as the Chief Quality Officer for the Department of Ophthalmology and Medical Director of Satellite Clinics. He also completed his M.B.A. at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business before moving into drug development roles at Genentech in 2019. For the past 4 years, he has been working as a medical monitor and medical director for the Port Delivery System program at Genentech and he is the clinical lead for the DME indication. He also served as the surgical lead for the PDS program and the director of the PDSU training program, where he helped re-engineer PDS surgical procedures and surgical teaching practices and oversaw the global expansion of PDS clinical trials into >25 countries. Varun still maintains a clinical presence and provides care to patients at a VA hospital where he still teaches Loyola University ophthalmology residents.
