Biography
Dr. Lee is the Professor of Ophthalmology and a member of the vitreoretinal faculty at Asan Medical Center and University of Ulsan College of medicine. Dr. Lee received his medical degree at Seoul National University and his ophthalmology residency training at Asan Medical Center in Seoul, Korea. He completed a two-year clinical vitreoretinal fellowship at Asan Medical Center. He joined the faculty at Asan Medical Center in 2009.
He has published over 70 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has an active clinical and basic science research program. Dr. Lee treats patients with a variety of medical and surgical vitreoretinal diseases. His clinical research interests include novel medical and surgical therapies of age-related macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, and other posterior segment disorders. He has been a pioneer in the development of stem cell-based cell therapy and gene delivery to the retina to treat ocular disease. He has participated in numerous clinical trials of new therapies for vitreoretinal diseases. He directs a basic research program to develop a new treatment option for age-related macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa and investigate the mechanisms responsible for uveitis.
