Description
Hosted by the ASRS Empowerment & Opportunity Section, this session will explore the role of diversity, equity, and inclusion in shaping supportive training environments, strengthening professional collaboration, and improving patient care across both academic institutions and private practice settings.
Participants will examine how DEI principles influence mentorship, recruitment, professional development, and leadership opportunities within ophthalmology. The program will highlight practical strategies for recognizing barriers, fostering inclusive clinical and educational environments, and advocating for constructive change within departments, practices, and professional organizations.
Following the presentation, participants in the Empowerment & Opportunity Mentorship Program will continue the conversation in small-group breakout rooms with their mentors and mentees. Attendees who are not part of the mentorship program are warmly invited to join us for the presentation and will be asked to exit the Zoom session when the breakout discussions begin.
