ASRS Recommends Senate HELP Committee Improve Reimbursement to Meet Workforce Challenges
This week, ASRS submitted comments in response to a Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee request for information on healthcare workforce issues. In our response, we noted that long-standing lags in physician payment, coupled with current record inflation, put retina practices at a disadvantage when compared to other healthcare providers, such as hospitals, whose payments have been adjusted for inflation. Without a necessary Medicare physician payment increase, we warn retina practices will continue to face worker shortages and patients will face long wait times for care. We recommend the committee work across Congress to enact long-term payment reform.
