ASRS Calls on Congress to Adjust Physician Pay for Inflation, Limit Impact of Budget Neutrality
The ASRS submitted comments to a bipartisan group of House members seeking input on potential long-term Medicare physician payment reform. ASRS noted that even before recent record inflation, physician payment lagged behind inflation significantly. The recent increases in costs, particularly for staffing, have disadvantaged retina practices and impending Medicare cuts for 2023 due to budget neutrality in the fee schedule will likely limit beneficiaries’ access to care. In addition, we recommend that Congress modify the MIPS program to make it more clinically-relevant and to mandate CMS provide opportunities for specialists to develop and participate in alternative payment models. ASRS also sent a joint response with the Alliance of Specialty Medicine.
