Bipartisan Legislation to Prevent 2023 Medicare Cuts Introduced in the House
This week, Reps. Ami Bera, MD (D-CA) and Larry Bucshon, MD (R-IN) introduced legislation to prevent expected Medicare physician payment cuts in 2023. Due to the ongoing impacts of 2021 increases to E/M services and additional budget neutrality adjustments, CMS is proposing to reduce the 2023 conversion factor by 4.2% from the 2022 level. The Supporting Medicare Providers Act would modify the 2023 conversion factor to prevent the cut and keep payment levels neutral from 2022.
ASRS and the surgical coalition have issued support for the bill and will be advocating for its passage. In addition, we are advocating that Congress provide an inflation-based update for 2023 and prevent additional across-the-board cuts due to pay-as-you go rules triggered by previous legislation.
