ASRS Member Action Helps Advance Prior Authorization Reform

On Wednesday, the House Ways and Means Committee unanimously approved the bipartisan Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act, legislation that streamlines and reforms the prior authorization process in Medicare Advantage. Prior to committee action on this bill, hundreds of ASRS members contacted their members of Congress in support of this legislation. Thank you for your participation in this effort, it made a direct impact on today’s vote.

The bill would require insurers to implement electronic prior authorization systems, reduce the use of prior authorization for frequently approved services, require review of requests by qualified medical personnel and require insurers to report on their use of prior authorization.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to contact your Representative or Senators on this bill, your participation is still needed to ensure its final passage. Click here to send an instant, pre-written email to your legislators.
