ASRS, Alliance Issue Support for Reforms to Prior Authorization Appeals Process
Late last week, ASRS joined with the Alliance of Specialty Medicine in a letter of support for newly-introduced bipartisan legislation that would improve the appeals process for denied prior authorization requests in Medicare and Medicare Advantage. Specifically, H.R. 2433, the Reducing Medically Unnecessary Delays in Care Act, would ensure that prior authorization decisions are made by board-certified physicians in the same specialty as the physician of the treatment or disease in question, and directs plans to comply with requirements around medical necessity and written clinical criteria.
