Copay Assistance Program and Avastin Shortage Update
ASRS continues to hear from members and practice administrators across the country about the direct impact of the current lack of copay assistance for retinal diseases. Thank you for your communications. We understand the importance of this assistance in continuing your patients’ care. As we seek opportunities to improve this situation, we ask that you continue to let the manufacturers know that your patients are depending on the viability of the program.
Regarding the Avastin shortage, please continue to let us know if you are experiencing any issues accessing Avastin. We are continuing to inform payors of the Avastin market failures and asking that they suspend step therapy. In addition, if you are being reimbursed less than what you paid to obtain Avastin, please send ASRS invoices demonstrating this underpayment. We will then advocate for Medicare to increase their reimbursement. As a reminder, balance billing Medicare or Medicare Advantage patients is not permitted.
