CMS Reopens 2023 MIPS Hardship Application in Response to Change Healthcare Cyberattack

CMS has reopened the 2023 MIPS Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances (EUC) hardship application for participants who are impacted by the ongoing cyberattack on Change Healthcare. The EUC hardship application will be open until 8 PM (ET) on April 15, 2024.

Log-into the QPP portal to apply.

CMS notes it will only approve applications that cite the cyberattack as the reason for the request. In addition, any MIPS data submitted after the EUC application is approved will override it. If an individual or group has already submitted data in more than one category, the EUC will re-weight the categories that have not yet been submitted to 0% and calculate the final 2023 MIPS score only on the submitted data.

As we notified you earlier this week, CMS has also extended the 2023 MIPS data submission deadline to April 15, 2024.
