Biography

Ivan J. Suner, MD, MBA has been in private practice at Retina Associates of Florida since 2009.

He is a Fellow of the American Society of Retina Specialists (FASRS). and a member of the Macula Society and Retina Society.

He previously served as Assistant Professor at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute from 2000-2005, where he received the "Professor of the Year" Award on several occasion. Subsequently he served as Associate Professor at Duke University Eye Center from 2005-2008, where he was also named "Professor of the Year" on several occasions before moving to Tampa. He also was President of the Association of Veterans Affairs Ophthalmologists from 2006-2008.

He is originally from Puerto Rico and attended Harvard University (Class of 1988) and Yale University School of Medicine (Class of 1992). He completed an Internship in Internal Medicine math Yale University-Norwalk Hospital, followed by a Residency and Retina Fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. He completed his MBA at University of South Florida in 2014.

He is a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force where he earned "Distinguished Graduate" at Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base and the Meritorious Service Medal. He served as a Chief of Ophthalmology at Scott Air Force Base, IL from 1996-2000.
