The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is seeking an academically oriented Medical/Surgical or Medical Vitreoretinal ophthalmologist to join the Retina Service.

Job Requirements:

This is an open-rank, full-time position on the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS). Completion of 3-4 years Ophthalmology residency and a fellowship with focus on medical retina, surgical retina, or uveitis is required. Candidate must be American Board of Ophthalmology certified or board eligible (up to 5 years from graduation from residency to achieve certification) is required.

Qualified candidates will be considered at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor. In addition to the above-mentioned clinical and teaching activities, CHS track responsibilities will also include developing a clinical and/or laboratory research program. The clinical or basic science research will be supported with start-up funds. Candidates for the Associate Professor or Professor rank must meet criteria for appointment at rank per the UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for appointment and promotion on the CHS track. The successful candidate will participate in Departmental, School of Medicine and Public Health, and University of Wisconsin committees as assigned. Perform professional, University of Wisconsin, UW Health and community service appropriate to the faculty rank.

This position will be based primarily at Harborview Medical Center and at the Karalis Johnson Retina Center in South Lake Union, but may also include practice at other University of Washington affiliate sites, including UW Medical Center and the Veteran's Administration Puget Sound Healthcare System's Seattle location. This non-tenured, 12-month service period appointment will be made at rank commensurate with qualifications Assistant, Associate or full Professor. Qualified candidates of all levels of experience will be considered. 

The successful candidate will have a strong interest in academic ophthalmology including pursuing substantial teaching and scholarly research. Protected time for academic endeavors will be provided. Applicants must be Board-certified (or foreign equivalent) or Board eligible and eligible for licensu re in the State of Washington.

Responsibilities include: clinical care, resident and fellow training including surgical training, and teaching of medical students. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to scholarship in ophthalmology. The practice has been well established since 1981 and continues to participate in a number of national clinical trials with the DRCR and drug companies. We have also participated in and continue to participate in the IMT trial, and are currently only one of 12 practices in the United States performing the pseudophakic exchange implant trial.
