DESCRIPTION:\nEvent Description:  The Vail Vitrectomy Meetings\, founded by
  Dr. Robert Machemer and colleagues in March 1975\, were designed to promo
 te the exchange of new ideas and information.  Dr. Machemer sought to brin
 g together many of the top thought leaders and innovators from around the 
 world to create a vibrant retinal surgery “think tank”.  The goal has been
  to showcase novel vitreoretinal surgical concepts\, instrumentation\, and
  techniques and to stimulate audience interactions to further the evolutio
 n of the field.  Hence\, the meeting is not annual\, but rather is schedul
 ed for every 3 to 4 years.  \n\n\nThe Vail Vitrectomy meetings are differe
 nt in substantive ways from other meetings. They are very interactive\, cr
 oss-cultural\, invitation-only meetings whose requirement for attendance i
 s that each speaker must present a project or concept that has never been 
 presented before at any other major meeting. This meeting is by invitation
