MASTERS AT THE WAVE 2009

A Combined Meeting of the Masters of the ASRS Annual Meeting and the Western Association for Vitreoretinal Education Biennial Meeting

Fairmont Kea Lani
Maui, Hawaii
July 12- 15, 2009

Program Chairs:
Paul Tornambe, MD, ASRS Past-President
Paul Griggs, MD, WAVE Program Organizer

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Masters at the WAVE 2009 meeting will adhere to the Masters format with one day devoted to medical retina, one day to surgical retina, and AMD still holds the spotlight for one day of thoughtful discourse. We encourage participants to share an interesting case; more formal papers are also permitted if they will stimulate discussion. The foundation of this meeting is group participation in a relaxed environment. Each presentation will last about 10 minutes, we ask the presentation to be five minutes or less to permit ample time for group comments. It is the discussion time which makes this meeting unique.

Kang Zhang, MD, PhD, Professor of Ophthalmology and Human Genetics at Shiley Eye Center at the University of California San Diego, has been invited to be the Mentor's Lecturer. He is a brilliant researcher and a very enthusiastic, humorous speaker you will all enjoy. He recently published on the potential negative effect siRNA may have on dry AMD. As usual the presentations will extend from 8AM until noon with afternoons free for collegial discourse in an informal environment. The meeting begins with a welcome reception Sunday evening, and concludes with a family dinner party on Tuesday evening. We hope those attending will bring something interesting to present, an interesting case, a problem case, an operation, an office problem... something that would be interesting to group. This is not an 'I talk, you listen meeting', its success depends on your participation, you all are 'the Masters'.

MASTERS AT THE WAVE 2009 EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES & PURPOSE

Describe the findings, diagnosis and treatment of various vitreoretinal disorders such as macular degeneration, choroidal neovascularization, diabetic retinopathy, venous occlusive disease, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, ocular inflammatory disease, tumors, proliferative vitreoretinopathy, and retinal detachment.
