"Under the authority of the bylaws of the American Society of Retina Specialists and with the approval of the Board of Directors, I herewith proclaim that the 28th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Retina Specialists will convene at the Vancouver Convention Centre, on Saturday, August 28, and will continue through Wednesday, September 1, 2010."

The objective of the videotape presentations as part of the scientific sessions and within the 12th Annual ASRS Film Festival is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and information for educational purposes by the videotape viewers. The American Society of Retina Specialists accepts no responsibility for any use or misuse of copyrighted images, narration, or synchronized background music on these videotapes, and these are the express responsibility of the videotape authors.

Display and Distribution Policy
The American Society of Retina Specialists has retained the exclusive use of the Vancouver Convention Centre to enable registered members, non-members, exhibitors, and guests to participate in the 28th Annual American Society of Retina Specialists Meeting educational and informational activities. The display or distribution of non-sponsored information, or advertising in or on the location of the 28th Annual American Society of Retina Specialists Meeting areas, except within exhibition booths, is prohibited. Violation of this policy will result in confiscation and disposal of the material. Individuals who violate this policy may be evicted from the premises.
No Smoking Policy
It is the policy of the American Society of Retina Specialists to prohibit smoking in all meeting and exhibition areas. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Photography and Taping of Exhibits and Program Policy
Attendees wishing to photograph or videotape a technical exhibit must secure permission from the exhibiting company before doing so. The American Society of Retina Specialists holds copyright on scientific material presented at the meeting, after which time the copyright is returned to the author. Therefore, no portion of a scientific program may be photographed, audio taped or videotaped without the express written consent of the American Society of Retina Specialists.
The ASRS Preferences and Trends Survey Policies and Disclaimer
The Preferences and Trends (PAT) Survey report is provided for educational interest of registrants and guests of the 28th Annual American Society of Retina Specialists Meeting. The data reported represents the opinions and preferences of the survey respondents alone, and may not represent the complete or collective opinion of the membership, nor does it necessarily represent the opinion of the American Society of Retina Specialists.
All data collected is retrospective opinion data and is not based upon any accurate records review by the respondents. No implication of any correct or incorrect response is implied by the survey. Further, the survey does not seek to establish any clinical standard of care. Photography and videotaping of material displayed as part of the PAT Survey is expressly forbidden without the written consent of the American Society of Retina Specialists.
Commercial supporters that would like to obtain PAT Survey data should submit a written request to Cordie Miller, Executive Director of the American Society of Retina Specialists. Members who wish to quote or reference any data or comments displayed in the PAT Survey may request reference information and permission from the American Society of Retina Specialists.
Exhibition Hall Policy
In addition to registered physicians, authorized personnel of exhibiting companies only, have access to the 28th Annual American Society of Retina Specialists Meeting and its Exhibition Hall. Solicitation by individuals not participating as exhibitors is prohibited. Attendees should report these activities or other questionable practices to the Annual Meeting Office. Attendance within individual exhibit booths is open to all registered attendees of the 28th Annual American Society of Retina Specialists Meeting. Admittance to corporate exhibition booths by other corporate exhibitors, non-physician attendees of the 28th Annual American Society of Retina Specialists Meeting, or other personnel is at the discretion of the exhibiting firm.
Meeting Registration & Information
Who May Register & Attend
- Members in good standing of the American Society of Retina Specialists.
- Residents, non-member Fellows-in-training and Guests who are sponsored by an ASRS member in good standing and in attendance of the meeting.
All speakers and all other First Authors (Presenting Authors) are required to register and pay an attendee fee.
Name Badges
Name badges are provided to all registered attendees of the 28th Annual American Society of Retina Specialists Meeting. Replacement badges are available at the registration desk. Badges are not transferable, and cannot be lent to anyone for any purpose during the meeting. All attendees are requested to display their name badge during all official functions.
Attendee Fee and Cancellation/Refund Policy
The registration fee includes name badge, meeting program book, meeting materials, Retina Case Conference, scientific sessions, film festival, exhibit hall tradeshow, welcome reception, refreshment breaks, daily continental breakfast, Young Physicians Section Symposium (for those in practice 7 years or less), Women in Retina Symposium, and gala dinner.
The adult guest fees include daily continental breakfast, welcome reception and gala dinner.
The child guest fees include daily continental breakfast, welcome reception and gala dinner.
Registration fees are fixed and cannot be broken for partial attendance of days or sessions, or non-attendance of social events.
All cancellations and requests for refunds must be made in writing and have been received by Medical Conference Planners, Inc. no later than July 30, 2010. No refunds will be given after July 30, 2010.
Official Language
The official language for all scientific sessions of the 28th Annual American Society of Retina Specialists Meeting is English. Speakers must present in English with English text, slides, and audiovisual materials. All films submitted for the Film Festival must be narrated in English, or have English subtitles.

Exhibit Hall
Corporate Exhibits
Plan to visit the retinal technology exhibition of the world's leading retinal corporations at the 28th Annual American Society of Retina Specialists Meeting exhibit hall. Companies will showcase the newest and most innovative products and services, including surgical instrumentation, operating room equipment and supplies, pharmaceuticals, and educational materials, all related to the practice of retinal disease management. Attendees are invited to engage in an active discussion with the corporate attendees.

Audiovisual Service
- Speakers must check in to the Speaker-Ready Room at least 4 hours prior to their scheduled presentation time. If your presentation is very comprehensive (i.e. file size 2 gig, a lot of videos and/or audio), you are encouraged to visit the Speaker-Ready Room as soon as possible after your arrival at the hotel. Your last minute or late arrival may jeopardize other presentations. Please report to the Speaker Ready Room in a timely manner.
- If the presentation is being given in the morning, speakers must check in the day before.
- Presenters are responsible to ensure that any attached video and audio files run correctly with their computer presentations. Presenters must review and confirm correct operation with the AV attendant in the Speaker-Ready Room. Speakers are strongly encouraged to bring a backup DVD disk of all videos.
- When possible, all video play back should be imbedded within the PowerPoint or Keynote program.
- The Speaker-Ready Room attendant will accept computer-generated presentations on either a DVD/CD -R disc or USB Memory Stick.
- Not all fonts will be available on the show computers. Please bring any unusual or non-standard font file(s) you're using in your presentation (on CD or Memory Stick) for loading onto the show computers.
- Computer generated presentations should be set to display at 1024 x 768 resolution.
- The computers provided for the Speaker-Ready Room and the General Session / Symposium will be equipped as follows:

- No other type of software can be accommodated and speakers must make sure their version of PowerPoint / Keynote is correct prior to the presentation.
- All presentations must use electronic format, (i.e. PowerPoint, or Keynote). NO EXCEPTIONS. All must be preloaded on, and given from, the main computers for the meeting.
- Personal laptop connection at the podium is not permitted.
- Automatic playback/timings should not be used in your PowerPoint presentation.
- The Speaker-Ready Room will be staffed with a PowerPoint Technician.
- The Speaker-Ready Room staff is not allowed to duplicate or replicate any other speaker's presentation.
- The Speaker-Ready Room is strictly to be used for pre-production for the meeting. It should not be used for meetings and social gatherings.
- The Speaker-Ready Room staff specializes in presentations. They are not allowed to provide IT solutions for your personal computers.
- Videos should be narrated live preferentially as opposed to playing a recorded narration. Background music can be played during the video presentation.
- The Speaker-Ready Room and General Session/Symposium rooms will be equipped with a (NTSC/PAL only) DVD player only.
- There will be no facility for the playback of videotapes of any type.

General Session Room
A dual podium system will be utilized. Speakers are encouraged to be ready at the front of the room immediately prior to their presentation so as to be able to step to the opposite unused podium immediately upon introduction.
The podium will be equipped with a microphone, an advance "enter" button for their graphic images, laser pointer, and an LED speaker countdown timer system.
If an audience member is designated to operate the laser pointer, it is the speaker's responsibility to provide a portable laser pointer for that person. The lectern laser pointer cannot be removed from the lectern.
Attendance at Symposia
28th Annual American Society of Retina Specialists Meeting Scientific Sessions
The following scientific-related activities are open to all registered attendees and corporate exhibitors: Scientific Paper and Poster Sessions, Retina Case Conference, Instructional Courses, Film Festival, Special Interest Groups Breakfast and PAT Survey report.
ASRS Business Meeting
The ASRS Business Meeting will be held on Sunday, August 28 from 11:35am-12:05pm, and is open only to ASRS members. ASRS applicants for membership, guests, and exhibitors may not attend.
Special Assistance
The American Society of Retina Specialists wishes to ensure that no individual with a disability is excluded or treated differently from other individuals because of the absence of auxiliary services. However, the American Society of Retina Specialists cannot ensure the availability of appropriate accommodations without ample prior notification.
If you are in need of special assistance during the meeting, please make all requests to the Annual Meeting Office and every attempt will be made to reasonably accommodate your request.
