2017 Call for Committee Nominations

The American Society of Retina Specialists is currently soliciting nominations to fill vacanices in the committees listed below for terms beginning in Janurary 2017.

All those seeking appointment must be officially nominated with accompanying biographical materials, statement of interest and conflict of interest disclosure form.

All nominations must be submitted by December 15, 2016.

Education Committee

Committee Chair: Jeffrey S. Heier, MD

Number of Committee Openings: 4

Committee’s Role:  Coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the ASRS Continuing Medical Education (CME) program and its individual activities to ensure quality and consistency in the content development and design process.  Provides oversight for the accreditation of the ASRS CME program.  Reviews and monitors the field of retina education, identifies gaps or areas in need of enhancement and recommends appropriate strategies and formats for education. 

Preferred Skills: Knowledge of ACCME requirements.

Federal Affairs Committee

Committee Chair: Pravin U. Dugel, MD

Number of Committee Openings: 4

Committee’s Role:  To serve as a steering committee on matters pertaining to advocacy and federal affairs.

Preferred Skills: Background in health policy and/or experience in grassroots advocacy a plus.

Finance Comittee

Committee Chair: Carl C. Awh, MD

Number of Committee Openings: 1

Committee’s Role: To help provide support and continuity in the management of the ASRS corporate relations, fundraising, investment oversight and financial management. Help establish a Finance Committee apprised of the Treasurer, Secretary, Corporate Relations Chair, and 3 additional at-large positions.

Preferred Skills: Background in finance, accounting, business, and/or investment management desirable.

Practice Management Committee 

Committee Chair: David M. Brown, MD

Number of Committee Openings: 2

Committee’s Role:  To inform members about practice management best practices as well as coding and regulatory issues that impact retina practices.

Preferred Skills: Knowledge of reimbursement issues and coding essential.

Research and Safety in Therapeutics Committee 

Committee Chair: Geoffrey G. Emerson, MD, PhD

Number of Committee Openings: 6

Committee’s Role:  Responsible for keeping the Board of Directors and Society members informed on the legal status of new devices, and ongoing retinal research studies and clinical trials. The Committee also provides updates to the members on coding issues related to new devices.

Preferred Skills: Interest in root cause analysis of adverse events and involvement in clinical research trials a plus.
